Bought it! My 1st Mk1

My First Mk1. Made in 1981, registered 1982.

A year earlier than me - I was made in 1982, registered 1983. I was originally on the hunt for a Lhasa green golf GTi, but It seemed a popular coloured car to completely destroy in the late 90’s, so the only ones I did find were horrendous. When I found this one I got straight on the phone. A very nice chap called Jon from Colchester had owned it for many years with his brother, with the intention of restoring it back to its former glory of the 80’s.

After talking to Jon for a few minutes, I knew I was having it. The following week the car turned up on a trailer early one January morning. It was exactly as described, with loads of spare parts, files crammed with history and receipts, Haynes manuals. But the best thing (other than the car itself) was a little blue notebook containing plans for the car, parts required (with part numbers), work completed, contacts. Assorts.

Buying and restoring this car is a huge dream of mine, that I never thought would happen. So next is to strip the car down to it’s under-crackers ready for the paint shop!
